"Schetmash" is one of those neologisms that the Soviets were so fond of. This is a contraction of the term "calculating machine". If we were to translate it in the spirit in which it was coined, we'd have to call it "Calcmach" (pronounced CALC-mash).

Schetmash still has a factory in Kursk that produces cash registers and point-of-sale machines. CHeck them out at http://schetmash.ru/ (if you read Russian, anyway...)
