Help:Adding New Items to the Wiki
From Wiki
- Make a new page
- Try and follow the common format of the other pages. If possible, copy off the source of a similar device and work from that. Let's be consistent out there!
- Title the main page with the full name and model number of the unit. Example: Hewlett_Packard_HP-48SX
- Several variants can be combined into one page. If this is done, identifying suffixes can be dropped. Example: Pickett N1010
- Accessories that can only be used with the current unit should be stored in a sub page. Example: Texas Instruments TI-95 PROCALC/Statistics Module can only be used with the TI-95.
- Be liberal with redirect pages. Example: Hewlett_Packard_HP-28C, Hewlett_Packard_HP-28S, Hewlett Packard HP-28C and HP-28S
- Look at the Site Map and see if there are any appropriate categories.
- Category Order
- Brand Name (not always the same as the manufacturer
- Country where brand name is hosted
- Manufacturer's name (if different)
- Country the unit was actually manufactured (if different. If same, put the country name in the third spot after the brand name and the manufacturer)
- Major category (e.g. Category:Slide Rules, Category:Electronic Calculators)
- Any appropriate sub categories (Slide rule length, circular or cylindrical, then duplex, mannheim or other functional type. For calculators, start with RPN or Algebraic, then programmability, then graphics)
- images
- include full name of device with image. when in doubt, append "obverse" to the name. Example: Image:Hewlett_Packard_HP-48SX_obverse.jpg
- Use underscores in the image links if you think about it :-)
- .jpg is preferred format.
- add to master index
- Alphabetical order! (well, Unicodabetical order at least)
- add to correct sub index
- Just copy and past the master index item
- Don't forget to fix the table of contents box if you add a new letter!
- If you have a new manufacturer, list them in the site map and also on the list of manufacturers for that type
- in fact, go through each link on the main page menus and make sure you added new types, manufacturers, countries
- replace the "recently acquired" item with the new item.
