After a long series of successes with portable calculators, HP took a few forays into portable computing. Here's one such, the HP-75C. The 75 spoke BASIC, included 8k of RAM (expandable) and a magnetic card reader/writer. Several expansion ports are provided for memory expansion and for canned applications. The 1x32 display is a little constricting. The unit supports the HP-IL serial interface, and you can use this to connect to a video adapter, a printer, cassette tape drives and all sorts of goodies. In addition to BASIC programs, you could store arbitrary text and maintain an appointment calendar, with timed alarms.
