With rubber case and hand-crafted leather overcase. This rule was made while the company was still known as "Pickett and Eckel". They seem to have dropped the idea of patenting their inventions, and instead secured a copyright on the layout. This rule was made between 1947 and 1962, most likely toward the beginning of that period. Serial number on runner, "024853".
Has two square root scales and three cube root scales rather than A/B or K scales. The log log scales are in base 10. Notations are given to assist the user in reading negative logarithms in the form 9.xxxx - 10. (e.g. log 2 = 0.301, log 0.2 = 9.301 - 10 = -0.699) This method conforms to many printed log tables and provides an easy shortcut when taking logarithms of numbers less than 1. The D scale on the obverse is cross notated "Co" with scale readings from 9 through 0, for quick subtraction of fractions from 1.
A previous owner made (or had made) a leather sheath into which the manufacturer's rubber case would fit.
