Cream base color; initials scratched onto reverse. Brown, faux leather sewn paperboard case; name and partial address of previous owner on case. Reverse of rule describes basic operations of rule. Slight peeling of paint, and oxidation of exposed magnesium surfaces suggest the reason Pickett went to aluminum sliderules. Runner has (by design) no plate on the reverse. The rule body has grooves that the runner grips to hold it in place. CI scale marked "1/C". Called "simplex" due to having scales on only one side.

The 900-series of rules (see also the 902 and 903) are designed as training rules; all have instructions for use on the reverse.

One previous owner identified himself as "J.C.R." on the reverse of the rule. Another as Bill Sherbonny and W Sherbonny on the case. Either the rule had two owners, or the set is mismatched. Mr Sherbonny gives as additional data about himself: "H.R. 88 #-24284". Readers are invited to amplify.

Readers are also invited to recommend a gentle solvent of magnesium oxide.
