This is really embarrassing. For much of its slide rule-selling existence, Post purveyed slide rules manufactured by Hemmi. This successful business relationship was interrupted during the unpleasantness that existed between Japan and the United States in the early 1940s. During this time, Post had no recourse but to have their rules made by a domestic factory.

After having seen the 1460 and 1461, I expected a good rule from the 1462. And, truly, the Japanese version of the 1462 looks topnotch. But the American version is just awful. Scales are inked on, rather than engraved. Plastic cursor and end brackets. This rule was made by Charvoz-Roos, who was certainly capable of better work. Alas, there was a war on.

Worse, as can be seen in the pictures of copy 2, the red ink was subject to fading.

Interestingly, this rule seems to be a duplex version of the Darmstadt system, which put the trig scales on the stators and the log scale on the slide.

Both rules dated to the 1941-1945 period. Copy 1 is celluloid bonded to pine, copy 2 is celluloid bonded to mahogany, or maybe cherry. Copy 2 has no make or model information, just the legend "MADE IN USA".
