For people who have problems with mislaying their calculators comes the Tozai ATC-986 Jumbo calculator. About the same size as an A4 piece of paper, this is appropriate for anyone's notebook (Unless you live in North America and your notebook doesn't hold A4 paper). At under $10, this is the cheapest laptop computer you can buy today.

There are a couple of little quirks. First there is no OFF button. The manual states that the calculator will shut itself off after 7 minutes of inactivity. Clearly a conspiracy launched by the dry cell manufacturing lobby. The LCD screen includes the "M" symbol reminding you there is something in memory, but no memory function is available. Maybe they ran out of room on the keyboard for the required 4 keys.

The manual is a 6-page multifold. The cover reminds us that this calculator is FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY. Two pages are sufficient to teach you how to use the unit and change the batteries. The remaining three pages were written by lawyers intent on keeping you from suing them should the reported value of the square root of 3 be incorrect. Or your child eats the battery. Or something. (It's funny...no one ever worried about me eating the batteries when I was a child.)

The manual states the calculator requires two LR44 cells, but the back plate says it takes one AG13 cell. So, I opened the thing up. There's a place for two cells, only one being used by the specified AG13. (See picture below)

Should I be so bold as to take the unit apart, merely removing 21 microscopic screws will do the trick.
